Ugly story here. This young teenage girl was dating a significantly older man. Her parents were apparently not consenting, but if they forbade her to see him, she often ran away to spend time with him. Note that while there was a difference in their age, the difference was not such that the act was illegal in their country.

During the two years they were together, either she or the parents apparently reported seven different domestic violence claims on the boyfriend, as he often beat the hell out of her. She'd go back to her parents for a while and then return to him in spite of her parents' protests. No one seems to be quite sure, at this point, why the police didn't intervene after the violence calls. But they did not. The lack of action on their part is currently under investigation by a prominent civic group in the city.

Last week, the two of them were sitting in his ramshackle apartment drinking beer together. the neighbors reported that they were drinking and talking loudly for a long time before a fight escalated regarding her spending time with another man.

The altercation apparently escalated quickly, with the end result being him punching her several times in the face and then strangling her to death on the frameless mattress that the two used for a bed. Based on the reports from neighbors, she was fighting with him most of the time until she stopped screaming. They apparently did not intervene because such incidents were sadly common and intervention had served no purpose in the past.

He seemed to realize that she was dead or mortally injured so he scooped her up, chucked her in a motorcycle-taxi parked nearby and drove her to the emergency clinic, then honked the horn and fled.

The medical workers came out, but could see quite clearly that she was already dead.

Police investigators went immediately to his place of residence after contacting the girl's parents, in hopes of arriving before he went back to eliminate evidence. They found signs of a struggle and evidence of her hair, blood, and urine on the mattress, as well as drugs and alcohol.

He is still at large, though when reports of the incident circulated a local mob burned down his 'apartment' as well as (inexplicably) the moto-taxi.

I'm a fan of beer, myself. That said, it's probably tough to keep it all in when you're getting beaten and strangled to death by your crazy boyfriend. One can hardly blame the poor girl. Or the beer. Plus, I'm pretty sure there's no toilet in the dilapidated shack he called home. Probably unsafe to walk to the public toilets in that neighborhood at night.
