I noticed how angry these people are in mexico. They could have just shot their victims and that was that. In many cases posted here, they're bound and tortured then executed and many times mutilated after.

True, however most of the violence is being caused by the drug cartels...they want not only to silence their critics, the authorities, or their competition but also to make a statement. Bizarre, methodical tortures and killings are one way to do that.
