Timestamps are on new years day 2011. He was probably trying to set up some pyrotechnics for the performance and got blasted in the face. Or he could be the unlucky bandmember who didnt know about the huge bomb set up next to the microphone.

Well, I'll just say, explosives don't tolerate fools. I know a 90-year-old man that has been in the fireworks industry his whole life that blew his foot off last season. He got complacent and was standing next to an 8-inch mortar tube after lighting the shell it contained. The shell didn't have a lift charge, so it exploded in the tube and took his foot with it. Most fireworks are made in China by people or even kids making pennies an hour. Most of the components made are a cottage industry. One village might make fuse; another may make the glue used or another may make powder for the stars or wrap tubes or ball shells.
You never know when one's going to malfunction. I see it most every show. When working with shit that can kill,burn,blind or maim you, you've gotta treat it with the utmost respect.
