Cancer maybe? It really does not look like any tooth puncture wounds or typical tearing of the meat or mauling. All the raw flesh lines are smooth. No tearing. No bloody mess.

He must have died at home alone. Things like this tend to happen whenever someone with pets, particularly dogs, dies unsupervised. As the pet runs out of food from their bowl, they resort to the remains. Thus, I don’t think he was mauled to death.
This is my initial thought as well. No signs of struggle.
