and if you europeans and americans dont know it yet, that in the pic is not a scooter. its a motorbike 110-125 cc with 4 speed forward gears at least. modified ones have a fifth gear. in the phillipines, scooters are those small motorcycles with a single speed motion... usually uses belt instead of chains. some call it mopeds.

depends on where you are. in the philippines scooters and motorcycles are one good mean of travel when you're in a hurry. big bikes are not much use on our highways since most places have heavy traffics and scooters / small motorcycles can dodge and scoot within the traffic. big bikes of 400cc up and cars will be left fuming and angry in a traffic jam. big bikes and used cars have the same price her so most who can aford the big bike price will choose a used car instead. even american and european tourists here uses "sissy bikes" as you call it when going on their daily activities here. big bikes and cars are only practical when you travel in a group but it will still get you stuck in a traffic jam and arguing.
