Man Killed on Motorcycle; Wife Mourns
As anyone here who knows me can tell you, I am a pretty callous, unsympathetic guy. I spend a great deal of time visually immersed in carnage and violence and I stopped feeling any reaction other than detached fascination for this sort of shit years ago. Nonetheless, I found this scene oddly touching and decided to post it, despite its lack of over-the-top gore. The victim here is a 44 year old man who was on a public highway, riding his motorcycle home from work. A farmer had been illegally pasturing his cattle in a nearby, unfenced field and one of the cows stepped out of some tall grass immediately in front of this guy. He tried to swerve safely out of the way but didn't have enough time. Motorcycle wiped out and his neck was broken-died instantly according to the responders. The second photo features the guy's wife. She isn't wailing with manufactured grief or acting in a caricatured fashion in any way. She's just...lying on top of him, lovingly caressing his hair as if they were sharing an afternoon nap together. But the tenderness of that gesture coupled with the crushing look of silent, agonized disbelief on her face speaks volumes about the sense of loss that is washing over her. She is truly heartbroken and I personally feel terrible for her. |
