You know you might be right about the shooting. I don't think these pictures can prove that but I saw a couple on another sight with the door open. The driver window is down as you said and he looked to be shot in the upper chest. The car appears to have plowed thru an embankment. If that is what happened he was shot from outside the car while it was moving.

By major impact I mean the area that absorbed the most damage thus the hardest area hit. I don't think the car was traveling very fast, but it did deploy the bag.
