A lot of people would go play in the water! My grandmother had a well on her property and she ended up having to put a locked cover over it.

Kids like to investigate so putting a ladder in the well is just asking for them to go play down there.

I agree. I don't think it's a good idea at all. To me putting a ladder in wells is like sending out an invitation for people to play in them.
