Malaysian Samurai Assasin

khalilKUALA LUMPUR: Khalil Afandi Abd Hamid (pic), the man who gained nationwide notoriety after his ill-fated attack on the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya yesterday, was a religious deviant who had a skewed perspective on politics and social interaction.

He is also believed to have issued a warning on his impending attack, and blogged that he would embark on a mission he “would not return from.”

The unemployed 46-year-old from Kampung Lindungan Jaya, Petaling Jaya was shot dead yesterday after he and his accomplice, 28-year-old Muhdalina Ahmad, charged at police with samurai swords after breaching security at Kompleks B of the building. He sustained gunshot wounds in his hand and thigh and later died at the Putrajaya Hospital. Muhdalina was shot in the thigh, but survived, and is now under police custody.

Checks by Malaysian Digest on his blog – www. jayanegara1234.blogspot.com – which was last updated on July 4, less than a week before his fatal amok attack, revealed a highly-disturbed person who harbored a deep-seated anger at what he described as “moral decay within society.”

Writing in Bahasa Malaysia, he described his motto as “life isn’t meant to be dictated to, like the police and army” and showed a deviant analysis of religion, such as questioning Islamic precept and teachings.

Khalil, among other things, wrote that:

He has known pain since he was three-years-old, and used to cry himself to sleep

He believed that no man could hurt him, and that a higher power would save him from harm

He claimed that religious teachers and ulama in Malaysia were “soft”, and had no right to educate others as they had yet to experience hardship and tribulations in their lives

He harbored intense hatred for the Malay sultanates, which he described as “immoral”

Believed that 2012 would portend the end of the age of mankind, and would see the coming of Imam Mahdi. He also issued a warning that “”your Imam Mahdi will be a man, and when he comes, it will not be to embrace you.” (Imam Mahdi is a prophesied redeemer of Islam who will rule before the Day of Judgment.)

He hinted at a mission that he would undertake, from which he would not return from.

Citing The Godfather as one of his favorite films, Khalil claimed to have previously worked in the Employees Provident Fund (EPPF) by day, and as a burger seller by night. He also described himself as a shy person, and claimed to be the object of affection for many girls in his youth.

He wrote extensively on matters of religion, and repeated that Malaysian Muslims have lost their path. He also raged against the ‘herd mentality’ adopted by Malaysians and claimed that they have lost their soul.

“A free soul means someone who doesn’t have a ring around his nose like a cow. It means being able to decide for yourself, being your own king. You fear no one while forming relationships with others. You are not simply an obedient dog,” he wrote.

In his writings, he had expressed his admiration for former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as someone of "strong moral fiber" and had ridiculed PAS leader Datuk Nik Aziz for allegedly marrying politics and religion.

In a posting on June 21, Khalil had also lamented that the Western entertainment industry was to blame for the decline in morals among the youth, and declared that “Satan has won, and we have lost the test for our soul.”

His final entry, dated June 30, hinted at a mission that he would undertake and it was something he would not return from.

“Goodbye. This is the final one; we will no longer meet in writing. We will meet, and I pledge to carry out my tasks so that I will never return.

“This is my final warning. Understand it,” he wrote.

In his final posting, a regular commenter, a woman known as ‘Dhada’, had expressed desire to follow him on his mission.

“I am in flames, Khalil. I will follow you. I too want to go home. Carry on, I am with you.”

It is leant that police are investigating the possibility that ‘Dhada’ is the identity of the second suspect, based on the extensive interaction between the two on the blog.

The mainstream media had reported that his accomplice had known him at least about a week before the Putrajaya attack. Comments on his blog appear to suggest that he had at least one follower, who had expressed affection for him and his “teachings.”

Police had described the attack as the “act of a madman”. The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
