Re: Lotus Elise Accident on Malaysian Highway

There's only so much an over sized go-cart with amazing suspension can do before it's up to the driver's skill to keep it from being torn to bits... At least Lotuses can be a bit more forgiving than Porsche's Carrera GT. By the looks of it, had there been a fire, he'd been toasted alive.

Re: Lotus Elise Accident on Malaysian Highway

The reason the driver survived is down where Lotus came from. The built racing cars (F1 etc) long before road/passenger cars, thus, they have excellent skills when it comes to building the necessary safety cages to protect the occupants. Its one of the reasons Lotus cars seem expensive for the size of car.....its a shame others do not put this tech into use, Whats a few extra thousand £/$'s when you know you can walk away from this kind of damage....one of the reasons I wont get rid of my old SAAB 9000 even though its not on the road at the moment, they are getting rarer now and are seriously fast for the size and their safety record is awesome....one day I'ma gonna get that old girl back on the road....nothing wrong with her, just I dont use my main car enough to warrant 2 cars on the road. My main car is just over 3 years old and I have'nt cover 10k miles in it yet!! I used to do 30-50k minimum a year in my private car easy pre-injury.

Re: Lotus Elise Accident on Malaysian Highway

PTSD Is My Life, I wouldn't go as far as to say he survived the crash because of Lotus' racing pedigree, as much as I'd attribute the fact they had to reinforce the frame and other body panels to make up for lack of a permanent top. Usually you're less safe driving a race to road exotic car, as there just aren't the same safety test(if any) or features as standard sport cars.

Re: Lotus Elise Accident on Malaysian Highway

The cost of owning a car is extremely high in Singapore and not many people own them - only the very rich so a majority of the cars there are posh. Its kinda all or nothing

But he didnt have to kill his dog

Re: Lotus Elise Accident on Malaysian Highway

Some of your replies are comical. First off it's not a piece of shit car. It's designed for track day type racing not a daily driver. There's no flash, comfort and fufu stuff inside. It's design to go fast with little horse power and very like weight. It's not designed to crash! Next is the body of the car isn't carbon fiber. It is fiberglass on a bonded aluminum frame. Lotus Elise/Exige line has dominated in circuit racing known for it's ability to own curves beating and handling much better than cars 5 to 10 times it's cost. Reason why the "tub" isn't damaged much is due to the fact it's very light. Heavy cars cause inertia while crumples itself. Lastly as someone said it's ugly? Obviously you never owned or driven one around town. It gets waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more attention than most high end cars due to many reasons....being very rare, being very sporty and looking like it costs 10 times more than it is. Yes i own one...actually just bought it but can't say its ugly! Car definitely isn't for everyone in means of comfort. It's not a drag car either in it's stock form. This accident happened at a very high speed + stupidity I'm guessing. Included some pics of my car :p
