At about 5pm on Wednesday, February 12, 2020, people in the area discovered a girl's body at Sítio Baixio do Exu, in the rural zone of Várzea Alegre, Ceará, Brazil. She had been abducted and tortured before being killed by gunfire to the head. Local reporting identified the 13-year-old as Lindiene da Silva Furtado.

The following day, a report relying on residents described her as about 18. It said she had uploaded a video declaring that she was changing criminal factions and was shot shortly afterward. Five days after the discovery, a more detailed report listed her age as 13 and said she was coerced into recording the video. She was then made to kneel before being shot in the head, the report said. Police had determined who was responsible, but no one had been arrested.
