Lightning Strike Kills 7 Students at Kai County School, Chongqing, 2007
At about 4:30 pm on May 23, 2007, lightning hit a classroom at Xingye Village Primary School in Yihe Town, Kai County, Chongqing, China. Seven students, aged 10 to 14, were killed and about 44 were injured, including five critically. The strike was reported to involve ball lightning and, during a thunderstorm, struck the building's ungrounded metal window frames. Students sitting beside the open windows, which had no glass, became the route for the electrical discharge. The school stood on a hilltop in a county ranked by Chongqing climate mapping as its most lightning-prone, but had no lightning protection. Three tall trees were about two meters from the classrooms. State investigators described the deaths as both a natural and a man-made disaster. Chinese coverage did not name the dead, who included five sixth-graders and two fourth-graders.  ·  ·  ·  · |

Aw, those are very sad images  I was looking at some from a cyclone a few days ago and they were horrendous.
