It's not a guy. There's a backstory floating around, that she (or he, though I doubt it) was a victim of a rape and murder, and her name was Rachel Durie. But that theory is bunk. There was no record of a Rachel Durie existing anywhere in the globe. And when the photos started floating around, the Rachel Corrie story was in the headlines (she was an American peace activist who was killed by a bulldozer in Israel, during the lead-up to the Iraq war). One of the witnesses, who attempted to rescue her, was a man by the name of Nicholas Durie. And some lauded him as a hero, if I remember right. So you know where that came from. No, I don't think the woman (man?) killed in this pic was Rachel Corrie. But if someone can shed more light on the backstory here, that'd be great. |
