Kyal Sin: 19-Year-Old Shot Dead at a Mandalay Protest, March 2021
On March 3, 2021, Kyal Sin, 19, who was known as Angel, was fatally shot in the head at an anti-coup demonstration in Mandalay, Myanmar. Around 38 people were killed nationwide that day, the deadliest point in the crackdown so far. Wearing a T-shirt bearing the words 'Everything will be OK', she became one of the uprising's defining figures through photographs taken that day. Myanmar's military government said police had not shot her. Myanmar Witness, in an open-source investigation, geolocated where she collapsed and identified video showing she was turned away from the police line when struck, concluding that security forces were almost certainly responsible. yeah, makes sense. but maybe the artist could have changed the object in her hand to something less...corporate? idk. the corporate soda pop in her hand in the tattoo kind of lessens its impact. in my opinion.
