a punctured heart would kill you in a matter of seconds, regardless of leaving or removing the piercing object.

I guess you haven't seen some of the vids here. Knife handles rocking with each beat. Or fully exposed, throbbing because of a shtgun blast.

Can you imagine how much it would hurt to have a knife through your heart. Each beat shredding your vital organ a little more.
