Judge and Prosecutor Shot Dead in Ciudad Victoria on December 17, 2018
Control judge Abelardo Ibarra Torres and state prosecutor Erika Dolores Granados Flores, 35, were shot and killed by an armed group on Calle Mariano G. Sela in the Haciendas del Santuario district of Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, on December 17, 2018. They were found with multiple gunshot wounds inside a Mini Cooper at about 10:50 p.m. Neighbors called the Red Cross, but both were already dead. Tamaulipas authorities offered a 1.5 million peso reward for information. Ibarra Torres and Granados Flores were working on the trial over the death of Maria del Pilar Garrido Santamans, a 34-year-old Spanish woman whose remains were identified after she disappeared while traveling toward Ciudad Victoria with her husband and baby on July 2, 2017. Her husband had been arrested in August 2017 and was on trial for her murder. Proceedings had resumed hours before the two officials were killed and were subsequently adjourned until January 8, 2019. No official motive for the killings was established. |
