Jiu-jitsu Fighter Beats Hotel Guest to Death During a Nervous Breakdown

1 year after passing Paulo Miyao’s guard and submitting him, Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Rafael Martinelli Queiroz, 27, beat a hotel guest, 49, to death in the hotel Vale Verde, Campo Grande, Brazil. The crime occurred last Saturday night (18/04/15).

“There is no doubt as to who is guilty of the crime. We have a full conviction that Rafael killed the man cruelly with no apparent reason, impressing even the police.” said the delegate James Macedo dos Santos.

Lawyers and family of jiu-jitsu fighter Rafael Martinelli Queiroz, believe that he was under controlled prescription drugs when he snapped in the hotel, killing the man, an electrical engineer. He was in the hotel with his girlfriend Carla Dias, when she told him that she was 2 months pregnant from another man. Rafael then snapped. He assaulted her. Desperate, the woman fled and asked for help at the front desk.

Out of control, Rafael left the room, breaking everything he saw in his path, including in the corridors, destroying lamps and other objects.

Random victim – He knocked on the door of room 216, where the victim was staying. Rafael was looking for his girlfriend. Upon opening the door, the victim was surprised by Rafael, who pushed the door and started to beat him.

Then Rafael used a wooden chair to hit the victim in the face. While the fighter was beating the man, hotel staff had already asked for help and the police were on the way.

After committing the crime, Rafael went down to the front desk and delivered a key to an employee, and said he was a guest. As he was leaving the hotel, the police approached Rafael and asked him about the noise.

When the police went to victim’s room, they discovered his body in a pool of blood.

Rafael is being held at the police station in Campo Grande, but according to his lawyers, Fábia Velinda Fávaro and Darguin Vilhalba Junior, he does not know what happened, nor why he is being held. For them, he is in a trance, possibly caused by controlled prescription drugs he took for depression, weight loss and for energy for the fights.

“He’s totally upset. He has no idea what happened. He is concerned with random things such as accessories, such as mobile phone that disappeared and the hotel bill, but has no idea of the crime he committed, “said Fabia. “Apparently, he had a psychotic breakdown.

The victim, the electrical engineer was buried on the afternoon of Monday, in Batatais, in São Paulo. According to friends, he was on his way to Singapore for work, when he was surprised in his hotel room by Rafael.

The fighter will be charged with 3 crimes: aggravated murder. In addition, bodily injury (domestic violence) due to assault of his girlfriend, and destroying the hotel.
