Re: IRA (Irish Republican Army)

There can never be peace in Ireland until the foreign, oppressive British presence is removed, leaving all the Irish people as a unit to control their own affairs and determine their own destinies as sovereign people, free in mind and body, separate and distinct physically, culturally and economically.

Foreign, Oppressive??? Northern Ireland is a country populated by a wide variety of people with often contradictory opinions. Currently the majority wish to stay part of the UK for lots of reasons. It isn't about fighting for independance if most of the people living there don't want it! It's a pretty piece of rhetoric you spout but actually Ireland and Britain have a common ancestry (thanks to the Normans) and to be frank, economically Northern Ireland is unable to function without a huge investment from the UK. I fear this is another American fuelled by this notion that Northern Ireland is an oppressed nation. Actually the only oppressors seemed to be the various groups trying to "force" their doctrine of either a united Ireland or to maintain their connection as part of the UK.

Read some history, it doesn't put the UK in a good light true but there are many facets to the "Troubles" that have been so destructive to the very pretty Northern Ireland.

That is true, and they caused the fact that brittish soldiers came themselves by fighting over a stupid religion but lot's of people still want the brits to go.
