No Such round exist for T-72. Most likely hit by APFSDS(KE) round which is Kinetic energy (KE) penetrator dart with no explosive on it. It is designed to kill tanks with just kinetic energy, penetrating the armor and pulverizing the crew inside. Yes KE Rounds are primary designed to kill tanks but most tank crews will fire it any target if its already in the breach. In my Armor gunnery training it was taught to fire whatever round was already in breach if there anykind of enemy target was visible and load appropriate round next. So, if i had HEAT Round in the breach , i would fire that even if my target was a tank. Will it kill the tank. Maybe. Will it damage components and shock and injure the crew , maybe. Then next round loaded will be a KE round , which will very likely kill the enemy tank. Its all part of tank crew training. |

Fascinating. How do tank crews get over the fear of potentially burning up inside a metal box? At least on subs it's more surreal to them. "Iron Coffins" is an excellent books on the horrors of sub warfare. I've never come across one from the view point of a tank crew. Ps. ALL HAIL GENERAL PATTON <3 |

I was assuming the Russian Voron round was like a flechette round, and that was what they were using.  Im guessing you are speaking of a SABOT round. Im ex-Army also, and had dealings with tracks of all kinds: 113, 577, M2, M60, M1. |

Doesn't look like the hull was breached. Not as much shrapnel damage to the inside as I would expect either, so not sure what the fuck happened. Possibly the roof hatch was open and a mortar round dropped in. If a 125mm HEAT round had hit the hull it would be pretty obvious. And who sent these guys a 113 with no heater in it? Gets kinda cold in Ukraine.
