Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Swiss driver Herbert Muller's lucky escape from his Ferrari 512M during a German InterSeries race at the Nurburgring in 1971. Another car collided with Herbert's during the rolling start raming it into and over the barrier into the pits. "There was a tremendous crash … I knew that I was flying through the air because I saw the blue sky behind the pits … and I knew that the car was on fire...and I though ‘This is not going to be good’. I braced myself waiting for some kind of impact, which is what happened … twice! All I was worried about was not to hit my head anywhere … then the car came to a stop … and I immediately release my seatbelt and since I didn’t know that I landed upside down, I fell into the burning fuel. I turned myself around … tried to kick open the door … no go … considered knocking out the windshield … didn’t work … so I tried the other door … and it opened enough for me to get through … and I knew that I was on fire … tried to figure out where to run … you know those Germans … I remember seeing a couple of fancy Mercedes cars on display next to the tower, so I thought … if I run towards the cars, somebody will try to save me so I don’t blow up the Mercs!” |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Ten years later and again at the Nurburgring curcuit, this time Herbert Muller runs out of luck crashing into a broken down car and perishing during the subsequent fire...

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Un-fucking-believable I have had the Rich Vogler video for the last two weeks! It was sitting in my Spam instead of my Inbox When I sent out some feelers after Rustymustangs request I didnt hear back from anyone But apparently the day after I did that one of my longtime race/crash contacts sent me the video and it ended up in my email Spam (maybe due to the size of the file?) So for two weeks I have had this rare video and instead of double checking my email like any smart person would do, I walk around with my thumb up my ass hoping someone out there recorded it back in the day and will by the grace of god get a hold of me first so I can post the video What a clusterfuck of an operation I have running over here Anyways not to make light of Rich Voglers horrific death in any way, the contact told me that Richs helmet contained his head and that he was decapitated I can not back that claim up because I have no facts about Voglers death at all But the contact has a vast knowledge base and I trust what he says on any issue, so take from that what you will RIP Rich, I remember you well from all the Indy 500s that you were in during the 1980s |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Mauro Baldi in an Arrows and Jochen Mass in a March touch during the French GP 1982 and fly off of the curcuit. Both were lucky to walk away, but Mass decided to retire from F1 after this and concentrate fully on Sportcar racing, winning Le Mans in 1989.
