Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
British driver Chris Irwin survived this huge accident at the Nurburgring 1000km in 1968, but he suffered serious injuries that finished his racing career. The Ford P68 flipped end over end at the Flugplatz after landing on its tail after cresting a jump in practice. Chris had taken part in 10 GP, with a best finish of 5th. |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
South African, Jody Scheckter in only his fourth GP in a McLaren M23 lost it on the first lap of the British GP at Silverstone 1973 and in doing so took out half of the grid. Thankfully there was no fire and everyone walked away apart from poor Andrea de Adamich in the number 9 Brabham who suffered leg injuries which would end his F1 career (white car, seventh photo). Scheckter went onto win the 1979 F1 World Championship in a Ferrari. |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
The British GP at Brands Hatch 1986 and a start-line shunt forces drivers to make evasive moves and Stefan Johanson has to steer his Ferrari over on Jacques Laffite's Ligier, leaving poor Jacque nowhere to go but the barrier. The front of the car is ripped pieces and he was trapped in the car for some time with two broken legs. This finished his 174 race F1 career, during which he had won six races.

Brian Redman's 1971 Targa Florio first lap crash in 1971. Only 20 miles into the Italian road race British driver Redman lost control of his Porsche 908 and was lucky to escape with minor burns. Brian had won the 1970 Targa and finished 3rd in only his second GP, the Spanish in 1968. |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Brian Redman's Cooper T86B front suspension breaks, (first picture) at high speed at the Belgium GP at the fearsome Spa circuit in 1968. The Cooper flew off the road into a car park and spectator area, hitting a parked vehicle and catching fire. Redman suffered a nasty compound fracture to his right arm and didn't race in F1 again until 1970. Redman said, "I was at going at 150 mph in top gear when a front wishbone broke on my Cooper-BRM. The results were disturbing to say the least, the car hitting the barrier and rolling over it, leaving me with a compound fracture of both bones in the right forearm" |
