Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Kenny Acheson was racing for the lead with Michele Alboreto at Pau in a F2 race in 1981. At the Pont Oscar section of the track Acheson crashed violently into the wall. It took 20 minutes for the marshals to free him from his Toleman. He suffered serious fractures to his legs.

He would go on to take part in three GP and finish third at Le Mans in 1991.

The 1971 Monaco F3 race and quite a spectacular accident involving drivers Dolhem (38), Ethuin (49), Rousselot (45) and Noe in the white car.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Alfonso de Portago was an all round sportsman, three times amateur champion jockey, he was an international-class swimmer and created the 1957 Spanish bobsleigh team to take part in the 1956 winter Olympics.

He started his Grand Prix career for Ferrari in 1956, finishing second in the British race with Peter Collins. He also took part in a large number of Sportcar races.

He was unhappy to take part in the 1957 Mille Miglia road race which he considered unnecessarily dangerous, but he competed nevertheless and 120km into the course disaster struck.

It's thought a tyre burst, hurling the Ferrari of de Portago and co-driver Ed Nelson into a group of spectators. The car left the road at around 150 mph careering along the edge of a canal, five onlookers were killed including two children.

The Ferrari's bonnet came adrift cutting de Portago in two. After this tragedy the Mille Miglia was banned by the Italian goverment.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Monaco F3 1970, Beuttler spins at the chicane and Trimmer is able to slip through, but Dubler hits the Shell advertisement hoarding. Scott, Kottulinsky and Fossati all pass through, but Wollek hits Beuttler and creates a roadblock creating havoc.

Monaco F3 again, this time 1977 and Rosei spins, and Necchi has no-where to go but over the top and into the barrier.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Denis Morin in his Martini MK31 was very lucky to walk away from this crash as yet another barrier splits....

It took place at the circuit of La Châtre in 1981, in the very fast 'Esse', his throttle stuck open and crashed very hard into the guardrail, but escaped miraculously unhurt.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

The aftermath of Ian Ashley's huge practice accident at the Canadian GP in 1977. After a 170 mph crash he suffered two broken ankles and this ended his Grand Prix career. These photos show the wreck of Ian's Hesketh 308E.
