Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Here are some clearer images of Gordon Smiley's fatal crash
Alvin, in the past when referring to the fourth picture you have said it is shocking when you work it out. I still cannot work out what we are looking at here apart from his car disintegrating, am I missing something ?
Thank you for this great thread and all your input.

There is a Gordon Smiley Tribute page on Facebook. They have a few that I have never seen. They claim to have more that have not been posted yet.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Kieth O'dor is killed in a crash at AVUS in the German touring car championship in 1994.

After winning the first race of the meeting, he hit the barriers in the second race. His Nissan came to a stop in the middle of the track, and was hit side-on by future five-time Le Mans winner Frank Biela's Audi.

O'dor died hours later from severe head injuries. He likely would have been unharmed if he'd been driving any of the other cars in the field, but his was a year-old car that had raced in the British championship, and was therefore right-hand drive.
How the fuck could you not see the guy with about 75 to 150 yards out in front of you. The guy had plenty of time to slow down. That bitch ran into him on purpose and murdered that poor bastard.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Jack McGrath was a great driver, remembered for his furious duel with Bill Vukovich for the lead at Indy in 1955. Vukovich didn't live through the race and McGrath didn't live through the year. My family and I were eating breakfast in the same restaurant with him and his car was on the trailer outside. They were heading for Phoenix. He didn't come back.
They had speculated that a broken RF was the culprit and that picture seems to support it.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Penrith Speedway Australia dirt oval, on June 13, 1938, driver Wally James lost control of his car. It skidded fifty yards, left the track at a speed of about 80 mi/h, jumped into the air and mowed down the crowd, injuring 13 spectators, five of them were members of the same family. A grandmother and 2 grandchildren under 5 were killed.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Billy Foster was an up and coming Indy car driver whose reputation was tarnished when he triggered the big 1966 Indy 500 starting line crash. He didn't last long enough to redeem himself, dying at Riverside in a stock car in early 1967. I had never seen a photo of the crash before.
