This was a non fatal accident in his lotus years before he was killed driving for brabham in '86. Came across it in an old scrapbook and thought it looked pretty wild!

i would guess 1983 i believe they ran pirelli's only in 83 - not sure, but they were on goodyears in 84 (also, too small a rear wing for 84) and i thought nelson's win in france 85 was pirelli's first in the modern era (if not in total), so lotus were probably running goodyears in 82 as well |

i should have researched first, and just made one post  it will be 83, the car is pretty much as it ran at silverstone, which was just before austria elio crashed out on lap 13 of austria that year, so it must be 83 the lotus did look totally (in relevant terms) by brands - it then had renault signage and a much different rear wing, hence my confusion over memories |

Agrees with gboy69, good spot & summation. I think that might be the same part of the track where DeCesaris rolled his Ligier in 85. The Oesterichring was a fabulous track, but boy did it have some big shunts in it's time - Donohue, Mass, Patrese & DeCesaris are memorable, as is the shambles of the 2 start pileups in 1987. |
