i dont understand why Stewart was so high up the track when he came back around and things were slowed down. he had no business being that close to the kid. Ward should have stayed with his car but Stewarts been in his situation many times in his past. i dont know what he was thinking.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
The driver in the car number 45 just ahead said he only saw him at the last moment and barely missed him. He was wearing black on a dimly lit black surface with a black car behind him I really doubt Stewart saw him until the last instant and tried to kick the throttle to turn the car left but clipped him with the right rear.

Given that the Sheriff has come out and said "No criminal charges, no evidence so far to necessitate criminal charges but the DA continues to investigate" I'm convinced Buford has it close to accurate, and his experience on the dirt circuit will reveal little tweaks that the average joe just doesn't know.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
I find this extremely sad for this 20 y.o. kid, but also for Stewart, who will no doubt be scarred for a while (if not for life) from this. And while we've all seen such actions where a racer walks down the track and gesticulates at an opponent, come on now... walking down a dirt track at night, a dimly lit one at that, wearing a black racing suit, a black helmet and what seems like a black hans device, at the outside exit of a turn... how can something NOT go wrong? |
