Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Gilles Villeneuve was leading the Dutch GP in 1979 at the Zandvoort track in his Ferrari 312T-4 in a battle with Alan Jones, when a slow puncture on his left rear tyre caused him to spin on lap 47 at the new chicane. He managed to miss anything solid and set off in second place. It took another lap and a half until the tyre completely gave out on the main straight and Gilles spun the car at Tarzan. Again he did not hit anything and he was expected to jump out of the car and wander back to the nearby pits. But he didn't, he re-started the Ferrari and stormed off with the rear suspension disintergrating as he made his way to the Ferrari pit for repairs. By the time he got there the car was wrecked, some criticised him for driving the car at speed in the state it was in but others realised Villeneuve only had one speed, flat out. |

....fingers like sausages... The first Le Mans race for the Ford GT40 in 1964 and the Richard Attwood / Jo Schlesser version retired on lap 58 with an engine fire. It had been a bad time for Jo who had suffered a very heavy crash in pre-race testing. |

I don't think this very sad photo of the aftermath of Senna's fatal accident at Imola 1994 has been posted before....
