Jacques Villeneuve Snr's heavy practice crash at Indy 1985, ripping the rear of his David Billes entered March off against the wall. Jacques entered three GP's in the early '80's failing to qualify on each occasion, but he won the 1985 Elkhart Lake CART race and finished in the top ten 14 times during 37 races from 1982 to '86 and two races in 1992. He is also a multiple World Championship Snowmobile Champion. |

Edouard Grammont's fatal crash in 1930 after colliding with Savora both in Bugatti's. Edouard raced using the name 'Eddoura' and started his racing career on motor cycles. Savora's car ended up on a railway track. |

Jiri Kristian Prince Lobkowicz's fatal crash at AVUS in 1932 on the first lap after leaving the track at high speed, hitting trees and crashing into a wall.

A huge accident and fire during the 1938 Tres Arroyos race with Fermín Martin and co-driver Miguel Zatuszek in a Mercedes-Benz SSK crashing into the stationary car of Plácido Ruiz. All of them were killed in the collision as was spectator Julio Tripaldi.

Emilio Villoresi lost his life in testing at Monza in 1939 in his Alfa Romeo 158 Alfetta when the car hit a tree after leaving the road approaching the first Lesmo, ejecting the driver after the steering failed.

The wrecked Yamaha of Frenchman Michel Rougerie, who fell from his machine at the 350cc Grand Prix of Yugoslavia World Championship race in 1981. After falling on lap two when tenth he was struck by the bike of his team mate Roger Sibille at full speed, who was unable to avoid him as he staggered to the edge of the track. He was killed instantly. Rougerie had been involved in a very similar fatal incident a year before hitting the fallen rider, Patrick Pons (post on page 191). Rougerie had won the 1969 24 Heures Bol d'Or, was seven times French Champion in multiple categories, winner of two 250cc World Championship races and one 250cc race, his best 500cc result was 3rd in 1977. |
