Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
RE: The Zampedri crash, the video footage from Salazar's in-car shows Salazar actually trying to duck as the car spins off the fence above him. Zampedri, like Briscoe, Hamilton (Davey, not Lewis) & Brack was injured, but compared to Renna & Wheldon, very, very lucky. Those cheese-grater fences are always a disaster when cars hit them. The 1996 Indy 500 was the first one after the CART/IRL split and it saw most of the famous teams & drivers showing up at Michigan for a rival race to "show these upstarts how it's done".... only to have a massive pile up on the warm-up lap even before the green flag. Highly embarrassing Indy however had its own tragedy when the pole winner Scott Brayton died in the final practice session after a puncture saw him spin and strike his head against the wall in turn 2. |

A tiny photo but possibly the only one that exists of French driver Jean-Pierre Cassegrain's crash at the old Dijon circuit in a F3 Brabham in 1971. Jean-Pierre flipped over his car and it erupted in flames, he was dragged clear by marshalls and spectators. · |

Chico Serra's massive crash during qualifying for the French GP 1983 in an Arrows, after leaving the track and rolling over into the catch fencing, but still making the grid in 26th. Serra won the 1979 British Formula Three Championship and participated in 33 Formula One World Championship Grands Prix with a best result of 6th. He was also Brazilian stock car racing champion in 1999, 2000 and 2001. |
