At the end of the 1960's Cosworth Engineering decided to build its own F1 car to go with its dominating engine the Ford Cosworth DFV V8. A futuristic, angular shape was created complete with four wheel drive, believed to be an important development due to the increasing power of the three litre engines. Racer Trevor Taylor and Cosworth co-founder Mike Costin tested the car making many changes but never liking the handling and balance of the car. Jackie Stewart also drove and disliked it. Cosworth decided to stick to engine building and the car never raced. Some think the Cosworth is one of the ugliest racing cars ever designed, personally I like it... |

But this IS really ugly, the 1960 Marcos, known as the Xylon and also unsuprisingly, the 'ugly duckling'. It was wood framed and raced successfully in its class in sportcar events. |
