Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
There is nothing cheering about racing accidents, at least not when they are fatal. If you are looking to be cheered up then you can move along, there is nothing here for you... |

Were you born stupid? Or did you have to work at it? |

September 19th 1906 and George Robertson destroyes the Apperson, injuring himself and riding mechanic Arthur Warren. The accident happened on Old Westbury Road in Roslyn during the American Elimination Trial for the Vanderbilt Cup. It was theorized that a left rear tire blew before they struck a large tree, the impact hurling the machine into a telegraph pole. The force of the impact was so great the car was wrapped around the pole like a piece of wire.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Question for AlvinKarpis: In the early days of racing, they had a mechanic riding along with the driver. I'm guessing it was his job to take care of the gears and making sure the cars were functional at the time (cars being a new invention and all). Do you know how long mechanics were required to ride along with the drivers, and when did the practice stop? I've read many sad stories where the mechanic was killed along with the driver in racing accidents. I know you've posted a few of their stories on this board. I just found it to be an interesting practice in the history of racing. |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Racing accidents--along with any kind of death listed on these pages SHOULD NOT cheer anyone up. I mentioned in another post that I read this board to help me forget about my issues. The things that have happened to so many people here makes whatever I'm bitching about seem like a first world problem, and it puts things into perspective. How am I going to continue to complain about not getting any when somewhere a group of soldiers are raping and killing innocent children? Sure there is having that morbid curiosity, but I find DR to be educational, albeit sad, and with that said I consider myself to be fortunate than the thousands of people who've had the misfortune of having their last photos posted here. The least I can do is to read their stories, view(and occasionally post) their images with respect, and wish the survivors well.
