Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
I like my bizarre racing cars and they don't get much more weird than this, the Hunter Star. It made its debut at the 1967 Thousand Miles of Interlagos race, but was not permitted to start as it failed a technical inspection. Designed by Bica Votnamis, it had a Corvette V8 engine positioned in the center of the car and a cockpit which was ahead of the front axle. I found a piece on a Brazilian website regarding it's racing success, 'Bica participated in Stage II of the Brazilian Championship Div 4 in Tarumã, and even that did not fare too badly: it was eighth in the overall standings and fourth in its category.' What a beast... |

Rare pictures of a huge accident that took place on the Três Horas de Joinville held in Santa Catarina, Brazil on March 9, 1968. A car had stopped on track and an accident ensued involving Lüersen's Simca plus a DKW, a Renault Gordini and a Willys Interlagos. They crashed into the crowd killing four and leaving 40 wounded.

Elliot Sadler: NASCAR Pocono 2010 Massive head first crash This is said to be the hardest hit in NASCAR history Im not sure if that is true, but it is for sure a huge hit The fact that Sadler was not seriously injured or killed is amazing Even more amazing is the fact that the only angle of the crash that ESPN got with its millions of cameras was this accidental shot. |

A couple more modern stock car crashes I remember well, but have seen nothing in here about... Ricky Craven Talladega 1996. Thought for sure he was dead... also Steve Grissom at Atlanta in '97. I was watching both of these races live and really expected the worst...

A couple more sad pictures of the fatal crash of the two times F1 Champion and Indy 500 winner in 1965, Jim Clark at the Hockenheim F2 race in 1968.
