Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
These are rare photo's from magazine articles showing the aftermath of the fatal crash for American Sportcar and sometimes F1 driver Paul Hawkins, at the 1969 Tourist Trophy at Oulton Park. Paul's Lola T70 left the track, crashing into a tree and exploding into flames. Hawkins took part in three GP's, famously crashing into harbour at Monaco in 1965. He had success in F2 and won the 1967 Targa Florio and the 1968 Monza 1000km Sportscar races. |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Csaba Kesjár was a multiple Karting Champion, four times Hungarian Formula East Champion and then competed in the 1987 and '88 German F3 Championship as well as testing the Zakspeed F1 car at the 1987 Hungarian GP meeting. He died at the Norisring in 1988 during a F3 race. His brakes failed and the car crashed very heavily into the tyres and then barrier which inflicted fatal injuries. Read the attached article for details, but Csaba's car went though the armco barrier which killed him instantly with massive head injuries. |

A very sad picture that I hadn't seen before of Jeff Krosnoff receiving medical attention after the accident at the Molson Indy Toronto at Exhibition Place in 1996. Tragically Jeff was beyond help and died instantly on impact with a light post.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Re: The Csaba accident, as can be seen in the report there was always issues with his name as is traditional with Hungarian names. I've always believed Csaba was his christian name, but as it's common (as I understand it) for Hungarians they use his surname first.... hence the gravestone has (his father I guess) the same name first. In case anyone didn't get the subtle hints from the article/picture or Windowlicker's post, he basically suffered the same life ending injury as Koinigg/Birell & Bristow. The key phrase is "died instantly", as previously discussed, no-one dies on the track except in 2 circumstances, this unfortunately was one. I can only hope he had suffered a medical issue prior to the crash. Interestingly, Csaba was very much in the running for a F1 seat, the inaugural Hungarian GP in 1986 had opened that countries eyes to the sport, and they were looking for their first "hero" of modern times. Sadly this wasn't to be, and Hungary had to wait till Zsolt Baumgartner made his debut in 2003 with Jordan. |
