Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Is there a way to add a picture or a link to one of my posts, or do I have to make another post?
New post as far as i'm aware my friend...

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

A rare photo of Ludovico Scarfiotti's fatal crash at the Rossfeld hill-climb at Roßfeldhöhenringstraße near Berchtesgaden, in the German Alps 1968. Scarfiotti won the 1962 European Hillclimb Championship and was a very skillful sportcar driver as well as winner of the Italian GP in 1966 in a Ferrari 312/66 V12.

Sixty yard skid marks were found on the road before his Porsche 910 had left the road and crashed into trees. The car was ripped to pieces, Ludovico's body had been thrown from the car and was found fifty yards away, he died of multiple fractures.

Which car killed the spectators, Clark's or VonTrips'?
It was Von Trips car that flew up against the spectator fencing after touching Clark's Lotus.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

The aftermath of Roger Mears' heavy crash at the 1982 Cleveland CART round. Roger is the older brother of racing legend Rick.

Roger raced in CART between 1978 and '84 with a best result of 4th (three times).

Must be tough being Rick's brother...

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

LeeRoy Yarbrough at the Indy 500 1971 driving for Dan Gurney's team, he crashed the Olsonite Eagle in practice.

LeeRoy took part in 198 NASCAR races winning 14 with 65 top 5 finishes and 92 top 10 finishes.

He was a top man of the late 1960's, a works Ford driver with the world seemingly at his feet but a crash in April of 1970 at the Texas World Speedway in College Station seemed to be the turning point not only in his career but his life as a whole. His behaviour became at times bizarre and this was noted by team owners and in 1971 he was in and out of hospitals with a fever. After quiting Indycar racing after this crash in '71 he took some good finishes in NASCAR during 1972 but then had a big crash at Martinsville and gave up the sport completely.

On February 13th 1980 Yarbrough attacked his mother nearly choaking her to death. He had been involved in a number of violent incidents since 1977 and doctors believed that head trauma brought on by race car accident(s) had brought on 'organic brain syndrome' and lead to his change in behaviour.

Yarbrough was judged incompetent to stand trial for attempted murder and was committed to a mental hospital. On August 27th 1980, Yarbrough was found innocent by reason of insanity and continued to remain in mental hospitals. He died on 7th December 1984 after hitting his head during a seizure.

A very sad end to what was, at his peak, a major talent.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Here are some older Gordon Smiley close up studies I made when we were trying to figure out where the body is in the each picture years ago

I enlarged each picture just enough so no resolution was lost and no pixelation occurred

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Yet another car going under barrier incident, this time Bobby Unser got lucky at the 1966 USAC Phoenix 150 and amazingly walked away from the wreck which passed competely under the armco.

A racing legend, two times USAC Champion and three times Indy 500 winner.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

The aftermath of Douglas Revson's fatal F3 crash at Ring Djursland in Denmark 1967, his body is shielded by track workers as they await medics. Douglas was Peter Revson'a bother who perished in a testing crash in 1974. They are buried together at the Ferncliff Cemetery, New York.
My Douglas Revson photos have become a bit of a mess covering two seperate posts and now i've got more so I thought I'd bring them all together in one (until I get some more).
Very unpleasant scenes of poor Douglas dying in the car and the prone body of what I believe The Dark said was the track owner.
