Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Pierre de Vizcaya was a Spanish racing driver who also took part in the 1923 Indy 500, finishing 12th. He also drove in the 1923 French GP in Bugatti's fantastic looking Type 32 'Tank', an aerodynamic experiment that lasted just the one race at Lyon. During the first lap Pierre lost control of his Bugatti it went through a wooden fence and the car ended up against a telegraph pole. At least fifteen spectators were hurt and De Vizcaya and his mechanic Joseph Etienne were also injured. The best finish for one of the 'Tanks' was 3rd in the hands of Ernest Friderich. |

I love the Bugatti Tank, completely mad looking car. If you thought that looked weird then check this one out, the Voisin C6 laboratoire raced in 1923 and appearing alongside 'the Tank' at the French GP. The C6 was one of the first cars ever to use monocoque chassis construction, and utilised a bizarre looking small radiator-mounted propeller to drive the cooling pump. Its designer Gabriel Voisin had initially been an aviation designer. |

Photos won't enlarge and video clips won't play. The new server needs a lot of work.

Maria de Villota. Amazing she survived when you see the damage that was caused in her accident. |
