Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
On the 5th lap at Dayton raceway in Ohio on 31st August 1952, the leader Gene Force ran wide racing into the third turn. Jim Rigsby, just behind him attempt to pass for the lead. Rigsby's right front wheel climbed over Force's left front wheel, Rigsby's car skidded left then corrected itself. The foot throttle was damaged in this contact causing the engine to race wide open. Rigsby's car raced up the third turn banking and launched over the single guard rail by 20 feet or more and landed in a cabbage patch some 200 feet from the track. The car erupted in flames... Jim had no chance. One of the most bizarre and unpleasant crashes ever caught on camera. That third photo, used as the front cover for Mechanix Illustrated is amazing and horrifying at the same time. |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
I do not in any way vouch for the authenticity of this picture In fact I doubt its the real deal But years ago a race/crash fanatic said theses were cropped from pictures of Smileys body in the care center after his racing suit was cut away So im posting this as a curiosity piece, because it stirred the pot up big time like 10 years ago |

A Nascar selection... 1-2. Talmadge 'Tab' Prince, February 19th 1970 at the Daytona Qualifying Race, the Daytona International Speedway. Fatal crash. 3-4. Ricky Knotts, February 14th 1980 at the Gatorade Twin 125 at the Daytona International Speedway. Fatal crash. 5-6. Jimmy Horton, 1993 during the Die Hard 500 at the Talladega Speedway. Horton was clipped by Stanley Smith car and his car left the curcuit crashing down onto an access road. Smith suffered very serious head injuries. |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Im sorry, I always assume everyone who replies in this thread has read every page Somewhere in this thread I told the story about a race/crash fan who claimed to have a picture of Gordon Smileys body in the IMS Care Center with his racing suit cut off After months of all the race/crash "gore junkies" (the kind of "fan" that gives people like myself and windowlicker a bad name) begging him to post the picture, he finally cropped the picture just so it showed Smileys legs and he posted it for only a couple hours on an old defunct website like 10 years ago I happened to be online at the time and dwnloaded the image I have been looking for this picture in my files for months and just found it today I have a hard time believing that this cropped image is really Smileys legs To me they look burnt, and Smileys racing suit protected his skin and as you can see in the videos he was only in the flames for a couple seconds It might be real, but without the entire picture its impossible to say if it is or isnt I posted it more as a curiosity piece, because if the rest of the picture is ever posted online then we would be able to tell if it really is Smileys legs |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
This video contains every Gordon Smiley video that was NOT uploaded by myslef (i.e. these videos were uploaded by other race/crash fans that I do not know personally) back in the early 2000s to about 2005 I made this clip a long time ago to keep track of what other fans have come across and posted Thought it would be cool to post as its a blast from the past and every Smiley clip (besides the ones with missing footage) is in one video |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
"The King" is what we locals call him. My stepfather grew up with him as their dads were best friends. I know his father (Bob) and brother (Randy) much more personally, as Steve is, and has been on the road for 200+ days a year for the last 20 years. Bob was one of the toughest sum-a-bitches u'd find. He was known to knock ppls teeth out, and more than person at a time. U didn't mess with ole Bob Kinser! lol Not many know this, but his father was just diagnosed with Alzheimers. His wife (Mahala), Randy and Steve's stepmother who raised them, was just at our garage sale a couple weeks ago telling us about his complications. Gonna be a REAL SprintCar LEGEND lost on this one. Terribly sad stories to hear. Seemed like "The King" sparked a little interest, so I thought I'd share this!

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
I am not saying this is authentic either, but it is possible. I know I have heard a little something about there possibly being a photo or 2 of this nature being taken. Could be wrong, but I think I've even heard that there were a few cameras confiscated and some ppl handled a little roughly...
