Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

His head was not in the helmet though. I've heard ppl say that too, but it is not true. He was NEARLY decapitaated, but was not.
Thanks for the info, looking at the video I didnt think his helmet contained his head as you see a track worker pick it up with ease like a regular helmet laying on the ground, plus when looking down at it he dosnt freak out or drop it or look away in shock

You cant really see Vogler's body inside the wreckage at all, so I can see how a myth of decapitation could be started

Like myself my contact is NOT a Sprint/Midget Car fan and im sure he was going off whatever info he was given about the Vogler clip from the source

And I have no idea who the source is, it very well could be the fat drunk wifebeating husband who worked nightshift and had his wife tape the race that I picture in my head

He could have told my contact anything, head in helmet, body cut in half, 8 track workers killed in a conspiracy coverup

Any more info you have to share please do

I would hate to be peddling false info

Plus if he was decapitated, then back in the day im sure I would have heard alot more talk and gossip about it (like Konnig decapitated, or Van Vurren cut in half, etc) and a huge search effort to find any video/pictures to see what really happened

I dont remember any of that, just that the video was rare

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

5. 1984 Randy LaJoie at Daytona.
To this day I think Lajoie is one of the luckiest drivers because his crash was so hard

I have nightmares about his car floating up and instead of hitting the wall with the bottom of his car (which saved his life IMO) his car countinued to spin over and he hits the wall with the roof of his car

I almost want to post the video again for effect, but its been posted twice by me already

Let me find a link to the post instead

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Found a couple pictures, one of Wolfgang Von Trips laid out on the track, and one of Jochen Rindts wreckage being lifted up and some other random pictures from his fatal crash at Monza that I dont think I posted earlier in this thread

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

A selection of NASCAR flips, none fatal.

1. 1960 Don Bitner at Lakewood Park.
2. 1961 Lee Petty at Daytona.
3. 1962 Bill Amick at Daytona.
4. 1965 Bud Strickler at Darlington.
5. 1984 Randy LaJoie at Daytona.
6. 1991 Darrel Waltrip at Daytona.
7. 1993 Neil Bonnet at Talladega.
8. 1995 Ken Schrader at Talladega.
9. 1997 Robert Pressley at Daytona.
I have a clip wth some of these old crashes in it

Its not supposed to be "shared" online as it is rights managed

I doubt we have any film or tv producers lurking in this thread that will rat me out

If we do then god have mercy on me

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Re: Swede Savage. But for some hospital doofus doing a dodgy transfusion, he'd have recovered from his broken legs and other assorted injuries.

Sadly the botched transfusion gave him Hep B and his organs couldn't fight it off. He died 33 days after his crash.

I dont know if I have ever commented on this but what Dark just said is true IMO

Dr Olvey claims in his book that Savage was doing well in his recovery and that he was real tough SOB who was only worried about having a limp for the rest of his life and how well his legs would heal

Olvey didnt know for sure but the Heb-B was either from a re-used needle or contaminated blood that killed Savage

It was real hush hush the entire time he was in the hospital and nobody really knew if he was doing good or doing bad that entire month

His teammate Gordon Johncock said later that "Nobody had any idea if Swede was ok or not, at first we thought the worst, then as time went on we all figured he pulled through and was in recovery for his injuries. Then all the sudden a month later we were told that he didnt make it and we were all in shock. It was very odd that things were kept so tight lipped and we could get no information about Swedes condition that whole month"

Just knowing that Swede SHOULD have lived makes his death 1000x worse in my book

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

Some pics that kinda give you an idea of Swede's injuries

As we have no pics or real info from the hospital its impossible to tel from these pictures the extent of his injuries

The most telling (and sad) thing for me is you can see how much pain he is in as its written all over his face

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)

America's first F1 Champion (1961 - Ferrari) and one of the greatest Sportcar drivers, Phil Hill. This is from the Austrian GP 1964 near the end of his career driving for the Cooper team. The car left the circuit and burst into flames, thankfully Hill was not injured.
