Alex Zanardi today won a Gold Medal in the Paralympics.

Pretty impressive and proof of his strength of mind to be the best he can possibly be despite his handicap.

I was wondering if that when that pic was published, if the same comments were made about about the Michelin Man. I saw the look on his face, and having read WindowLicker's previous short bio of him, I couldn't help but laugh out loud.

Here is the highest quality video I have of the Jeff Krosnoff and Gary Arvin double fatal accident that is so brutal and horrifying that the first time I saw it on replay I didnt think that what I saw was possible for his car to just cartwheel down the catchfence like it did

Then a couple years later a racing fan had the Japanese broadcast in high quality and uploaded it to a membership only website and after I downloaded it I took the replay part of the clip and slowed it way down and what you see is just horrible

First you see track marshal Gary Arvin get hit in head with Krosnoffs right front tire and killed. He drops/goes flying down like a lead brick (no disrespect meant its just what to look for to find Arvin among the group of marshals he is standing with

Then you have to watch very closely but there is a tree behind the catchfence that Krosnoff hits and inflicts horrific damage to his head

RIP to both driver Jeff Krosnoff and marshal Gary Arvin

He was also unlucky not to win Spa 1991 as he closed on the faltering Senna only to blow the engine with 3 laps to go. This race is somewhat more well known for the debut of Michael Schumacher.[/QUOTE

I would have loved to see Andrea win that race, he would have gone crazy. Perhaps similar to Vittorio Brambilla 'The Monza Gorrilla' when he won the Austrian GP in 1975. He celebrated so hard that he spun and smacked the nose cone as he went over the finish line...

A few pictures of the Ferrari of Willy Mairesse at Le Mans 1963.

Willy was a bit of a de Cesaris / Brambilla of his day.
During the 1968 Le Mans the door of his Ford GT40 opened while he was on the Mulsanne Straight on the first lap and Willy crashed suffering severe head injuries and by 1970 when he finally realised he would never race again he committed suicide in an Ostend hotel room.

Mairesse finished 3rd at the Italian GP 1960 and won the Targa Florio road race twice.

Willy Mairesse crashes out at the German GP 1963. He is thrown from the car suffering fractures to his arms and legs, the Ferrari continuing, hitting a member of the Red Cross sadly killing them instantly.

I do not think he was ripped in two pieces as it looks in the video, I think he almost was, but what we see after VanV hits the ground is his pants, shoes and vest go one way while VanV"s body goes to the fence and appears to almost go under it

If I remember correctly, when I had last examined this footage, I thought I was watching his feet ripped off

This is the career ending crash of the great Stirling Moss, 'The best driver never to win the F1 championship.'

Moss was considered the undisputed no. 1 in Grand Prix racing and for 1962 Enzo Ferrari was ready to give the Walker Racing team one of his cars to run for Stirling in 1962. But before the championship started Moss drove at the non-championship Goodwood meeting in a Lotus.

He had been delayed earlier in the race and while trying to unlap himself from Graham Hill there was a misunderstanding and Hill moved over on him, Moss crashing into a bank at high speed.

He was hospitalised with serious head injuries and a year later during a private test he decided to retire.
