I found another couple of pictures of the Jacky Ickx / Jackie Oliver fiery crash at the Spanish GP 1970 covered in an earlier post.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
Yes it is Just wait until you see his face in the picture of Dr Olvey taking his pulse, its so hard to see because the original part you see looks like the head of a spooky doll, and when you first see the picture it looks like you see two pairs of shoes and the Doc is taking his pulse on his leg up in the thigh area Thats what everyone sees at first He is taking his pulse on his neck and looking away from Smileys face/head, look at how the good Doctor is "checking" his pulse (he was going through the motions checking it so the crowd would see some sort of effort to check for life, Dr Olvey said as soon as he saw Smileys the top of Smileys head he knew for sure he was dead) the placement looks like his head might be to the side Look at the pic of Gordy in his racing suit and in your head picture what that would look like if the helmet was ripped from the suit His fire protected balaclava is a piece of clothing that is a part of not just attached (like his helmet) to his racing suit, so that stayed on for the most part I am about to post a short video of each angle of how his body ends up in relation to the front axle he is tangled up in But for now look at this for a while and go through all the possible ways you could be seeing Smileys face, back of the head, right side, left side, front side left front etc etc Spend a minute on each position, when you see his face it will give you the chills like nobodies business Again I love Gordon Smiley, no disrespect meant to him or his family at all, I hate to be blunt about stuff like this, but if your not sometimes people will never see what is really in the picture RIP Gordy |

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
I don't know how people feel about including some sportscar accidents but this one got some great pics.... The 11th lap of the Monza 1000km and Willy Meier was about to be lapped by Arturo Merzario and Jacky Ickx but did not see them and they collided. Meier was sent into the barrier breaking off the front of his Porsche 907, as Meier was not wearing belts he was ejected, which may have saved his life as the car exploded. Meier suffered a open fracture to his right thigh. |

An amazing photo of John Morton's IMSA accident at Lime Rock Park, Connecticut. His Nissan was turned into a fireball and Morton suffered some nasty burns , but he returned to win a month later.

Re: Indy/Formula One: Fatal and Non Fatal Crash Photos (Stop Motion, Color, B&W)
This is the Porsche 917 of privateer John Woolf in the Le Mans 24 hours of 1969, the first year the twelve cylinder machine had taken part. A this time the mighty Porsche was a particularly difficult beast to master and this was the first car Porsche had sold to a customer. At the high speed section at Maison Blanche he put two wheels on the grass and lost control of the vehicle. Woolf's car hit the barrier, overturned and slid down the track upside down splitting into two parts. Due to the traditional run to the cars that took place at the time, John did not have his safety belts on. Woolfe had been thrown clear at the point of impact and his fuel taken was ripped off and ran over by Chris Amon's Ferrari. Amon suffered minor burns, sadly Woolfe died instantly. |
