Hung her/himself. It looks like they were dangling because the blood looks like it settled in the legs, due to gravity. Of course I could be wrong and s(he) was climbing into the hammock when she got her skirt hooked which caused the hammock to roll and wrap around her neck....or, or..she was trying to retrieve her flip flop and got all hung up.
