Ok guys, so I havent posted anything for while cause I was dealing with my intership and social service. Now that its done, let me show you guys a story I was part of back in January in 2014 (and you know how I love to tell stories I had a personal involvement with) when I was doing my intership on Tijuanas' General Hospital.

The story is picked up from mexican newspapers, so I'll translate from a source:

"Tijuana.- Acussed on the charge of homocide, the man that was arrested for taking the life of his homosexual boyfriend with machete in hand and confessed he did it in vengence becuase he was cheating on him with other men.

The appointed criminal, originated from Colima, named Antonio de la Riva Heredia, 27 years old, responsable for the death of Enrique Gutierrez del Castillo, 57 years old, who he killed on the morning of January 8th 2014, under the effects of licor and crystal.

This barbaric crime was committed minutes before 7:00am in an apartment complex on a second floor located in Calle Benito Juarez and Milton Castellanos, in the peripheral zone of downtown Tijuana.

It was the municipal police who were able to stop the criminal when he tried to runaway, and when asked about the murder he said he did it because, a few days before he was shot by his, now dead, "friend" on his left shoulder (you can see the gun wound in the picture)

When interrogated by police he changed his story, claiming he had a "relacionship" with him, and on the day of th crime, they were consuming crytal meth.

It was then he remembered that, his now dead exboyfriend, Gutierrez del Castillo, was being unfaithful because he had different sexual relationships with other individuals, who he took to their "love nest" (im not making this up, it literally says that on the note) or on the graveyard where De la Riva Hereida work cleaning tombs

That triggered a discution between the two of them, and when the victim went to grab his shotgun, the criminal grabbed a 53cm machete and proceded to hit his lover on head, face and body

In the scene of the crime, the for walls and the ceiling were bathed in blood, the shotgun on the bed with the muzzle destroyed and the bloody machete on the floor.

The man was rushed to the General Hospital of Tijuana were he died around 7:45am"

And thats were I come in. I was getting to the second half of my 36 hour shift in emergency department on the General Hospital, when I get a call from an ambulance about a "severily wounded machete victim", I didnt think much of it because we always get hands or finger amputations because of those types of attacks.

When the ambulance arrived, I just saw a pile of meat ontop of a, what it seemed, a mans' face. When I got closer I notice that the hanging pieces of meat were actually, what used to be, a mans' face. Incredible enough, the man was still alive. I couldn't tell the difference between his eyes, his nose, or mouth, because pieces of fragments of facials bones were, literally, everywhere. It was like trying to put together a puzzle made out of meat and bones.

His vital signs were stable, dispite the state of his face. He was still breathing though a hole that used to be his mouth. Albeit, it wasnt hard to intubate the man cause he had his traquea sticking out (I could have easily grabbed his traquea with my hand and stick the breathing tube down)

On close inspeccion, the nose was completely amputated, right eye was missing and the normal caracteristics of the face were noticeable becuase of the trumatic fragmantation.

This was far beyond my skills, so I only proceeded to intubate him, sedate him and stabilize him for, possible, surgery. I called up my surgical superior, telling him about the situation and he asked I snap a picture because he said my description of the damage didnt make sense.

So I took the picture you see below and his exact reply in spanish was "esta jodido", which means "he's fucked". He told me to let the man die because there's no surgeon skilled enough, in Tijuana, to deal with that kind of damage. Dispite my disagreedment, my superior ruled that "we should let this man die" (after all, it was the most humane thing to do".

You guys know that Mexico is not a rich country, we do have some of the best surgeons in the world, but govermental hospitals, like the General Hospital, is not going to pay a high ranked plastic and facial surgeon to save a homosexual, drug addict man. Even if we had the money and the surgeons to make a reconstruccion, the risk of infeccion and complications would be off the charts and the normal way of life wouldn't be the same as before.

So, there you have it, one of the most shocking stories I got to live in full hand in this city that is Tijuana.
