Some pictures in possession of TODAY reveal horrific scenes of victims who have died through the reckless and wicked actions of hit-and-run drivers on the Mallam-Kasoa highway in Accra between March and July this year.
The horrendous photographs capture images of mutilated bodies of victims lying helplessly in the street whilst pedestrians look on.
Residents of the area in an interview with Today cited the ineptitude of city authorities to provide street lights and traffic lights in the area as the main cause of the problem.
According to road accident statistics in Accra, the Mallam Kasoa road recorded the highest number of accidents last year.
It was, however, gathered that the refusal of the police to come for the bodies of the victims is as a result of the hustle they usually go through in identifying relatives of the victims.
“Most often than not, it becomes extremely difficult to identify some of these victims. Some die on the spot whiles others also sustain severe injuries and their relatives would never come for them so sometimes we are left with no option than to pretend as if we have not seen anything,” a police officer at the Odorkor police station told the paper in anonymity in the course of the investigations.
That's the biggest Biro pen I've ever seen
