Re: Hanging (Case 2)

Basically it is stating that from the compression of the ligature on the carotid artery, there is a abnormal collection of cells being forced within the tissues of the artery wall layers. You can see the damage above and below the line of the ligature, that was caused by the inner arterial blood pressure, forcing the blood to actually infuse into the layers of the artery wall and going so far as to cause an arterial aneurysm. You can see where the areas above and below the ligature look as if they are distended and bloody bruised. Sort of like blowing up one of the straight, stick figure making balloons. If you blow it up and tie the end, everything looks fine. But, if you then squeeze it in the middle with your hand, you can see that both ends of the balloon get larger. That is because the air is being squeezed out of the part covered by the hand, so the other portions of it, now have more air pressure, and expands because of this. The artery will do just about the same thing when compressed, and because of the heart beating, the rise in arterial blood pressure, will cause damage to the artery above and below the ligature line. Sometimes it is so much pressure, that it will totally cause a "blow-out" type aneurysm. Hope this helps a little. Cabriolet.
