No, the hands naturally clench in death because of the flexor tendons. They passively pull toward the palm. The muscle that pulls back is the extensor digitorum, which extends from the wrist into the upper arm. Upon death, this muscle relaxes, allowing the "crow's claw" sign of brain stem death.

Or just visit any old folk's home. As their upper arm muscles atrophy, their hands concave into "crone's claws."

The hand is incredibly complicated and is a system of "levers and pulleys" which depends upon muscles both in the hand and in the arm, all the way up to the shoulder.

32 Thailand. There was a lot of concern in the discussion threads about why she was bleeding from her nether regions and whether there was a sexual assault and then staged murder or something.

One of the rescue workers said that they were not allowed to take her shorts off at the scene and check for anything because there were no female rescue workers present and there's apparently some protocol about that.

He then said that she'd pissed and shit herself too, but that both the urine and feces were essentially dry (you can see some dried fecal matter stuck to her thigh in some of the pics if you're looking for it) and that the blood was still wet and leaking before and after they moved her, so he assumed it was just part of the natural purge/decomp process starting as some of her internal organs started breaking down, separate from the evacuation which likely occurred at the moment of death. This all seems consistent with most of what I understand to be the case, as well, so he's probably right.

A woman around 37 years old was found hanged in the early morning.

Indonesian teen was found yesterday, hanging by a long scarf in her doorframe.

According to her parents, she was arguing with her boyfriend when they left around 8pm. When they returned an hour later, she was hanging dead. They think the boyfriend killed her.

One of the family members posted the photos online to show that it couldn't be a suicide because her feet are touching the ground and her tongue isn't out.

This is a familiar course in Indonesia. They're always confused about the concept of partial suspension hangings.

Obviously, a fight with the boyfriend right before is suspicious. He says they argued and he broke up with her and left. Several of her friends said she'd been depressed for weeks and this was the final straw.

Family wants an autopsy regardless as they say the cops did a rush job on the investigation. Police report (and one of the cops/ambulance guys posting on FB) said that there is no indication or suspicion of foul play.

History of depression. There were no signs of violence or a struggle on her body, the ligature mark matched the width of the cloth scarf, and she'd emptied her bowels and bladder into her underpants. One indicated that there was urine on the floor underneath her, but if so it is hard to make out in the photos.

Autopsies are expensive and with the police comfortable with the suicide attribution, it is unlikely one will be forthcoming.
