From what I read he didn't die:

"The house is owed by a police Sergeant, the officer approached the criminal who then pulled a machete on him, his grandson who was staying with him at the time see what was going on and tried to take the weapon from the criminal and was attacked, he was taken to hospital for surgery on his wounds. Police are still looking for the burglar."

He definitely wasn't dead in those pics.

I would say he is definitely quite DEAD in those pictures, you only get the pointer after the reaper.
