IMO, from the blood pools, I'd postulate that he hit the wall then eventually fell face when he lost consciousness and bled out the remainder. If you look at his left arm you'll see the negative of the image in the blood. There's also a large area in the middle of the pool where the left side of his face was in the blood pool.
