Greici Lizbeth Vargas Rivera Decapitated in Cancún, November 28, 2009
Greici Lizbeth Vargas Rivera, 19, was decapitated in Cancún, Quintana Roo, on November 28, 2009, after providing the military with information about a cartel cell. She had worked as a sex worker at Plaza 21 and as a "pantera" serving the cell, which operated as Los Zetas for the Gulf Cartel before the organizations split. Cancún municipal police commander Miguel Ángel Puch de la Cruz was shot outside his home on November 19. Six days later, Vargas Rivera gave information implicating members of the cell in his killing. Military intelligence and the federal Attorney General's Office then raided a safe house in Supermanzana 50 and arrested Joel Cantera Torres, an alleged gunman who was carrying a sketch of the commander's home.
