Yosita Boon-ngam, known as Nam Nueng, a 4-year-old girl, died after falling into an uncovered wastewater-treatment chamber at the Baan Eua Arthorn Wat Ngon Kai housing estate in Krathum Baen district, Samut Sakhon province, Thailand, on the evening of May 10, 2017. Thai press reported that she left home at about 8:30 pm to buy snacks and fell into the chamber, which was reported to be about five meters deep. Bystanders were too afraid to climb down after her, and rescue workers recovered her body roughly half an hour later. Reports said the chamber cover was missing or broken, while covers elsewhere in the estate were also damaged. Her father publicly appealed for her to be the last child to die in this manner. Thailand's National Housing Authority said it would introduce preventive measures. No charges had been reported.
