Giant Truck Smashes A Pickup - 25 May 2016 - Dae Moh, Thailand A Caterpillar service pickup was crushed by giant construction truck which was not visible on its path. It is said that the pickup was completely smashed and 3 people were inside. Jaysus! I can't believe the guy's pants didn't even split! Had to have snapped the poor man's back. I bet the big truck driver feels awful.  |

I work with a bunch of guys who used to work at the copper mines around Tucson, they used dump trucks up to 450 tons. Visibility is extremely poor, and the brakes are marginal. (They use electric braking from the motors in the wheels that drive them. At high speeds, the brakes are near useless.) The emergency brake, if used at any speed, will be wiped right out. It is for low speed and parking. There is simply NO WAY to slow down so much weight very quickly. Like a train, there is NO panic stop possible. People who work around the trucks like these need to be ever vigilant, and stay clear of them. My question would be"What were these guys even doing in an area where these heavy trucks are operating?" If you have to be in the area with these trucks, you stay WELL OFF TO THE SIDE of where they are operating. None of the guys I knew ever killed anyone, but the copper companies had STRICT rules about any conflicting traffic being in the operating are of these dump trucks. It just wasn't done! |
