Georgian Soldiers Killed During Russo-Georgian War, Aug. 2008
The Russo-Georgian War was fought from August 7 to 12, 2008. Georgian ground troops entered Tskhinvali on August 8 and withdrew on the evening of August 10. All Georgian forces had left South Ossetia by August 11, while Russian forces advanced into the Gori district of Georgia. Georgia's official military death toll was 170 servicemen. The casualties appear across at least three separate post-battle scenes. One contains a destroyed vehicle column and burned bodies on a gravel track. Another contains a wrecked Land Rover Defender beside an electrified railway line and a damaged building. A third places a body against a shell-pocked wall. The uniforms and vehicles identify the dead as Georgian servicemen, while a Russian soldier and a Russian military vehicle are present in one scene. You're right, it's not that different. Georgia declared it's independence from Russia. Parts of Georgia wanted to remain part of Russia. A new leader took power in Georgia, and besides wanting to make Georgia a NATO member he also wanted to take control over the territories still loyal to Russia by force, and he did.
