Gay Teen Larry King Shot by Brandon McInerney at Oxnard School, 2008
During first-period computer class at E.O. Green Junior High School in Oxnard, California, Brandon McInerney, 14, fired two bullets into the back of the head of his classmate, Lawrence 'Larry' King, on February 12, 2008. King, a 15-year-old student, had only recently started attending school in heels and makeup. Doctors declared him brain dead one day later. His organs were donated before his death on February 14. King had asked McInerney to be his valentine, and prosecutors said McInerney responded by threatening to kill him. They also submitted evidence that white-supremacist material was found in McInerney's home, while the defense maintained that he had been provoked. McInerney's initial trial produced a hung jury. In November 2011, he entered a guilty plea and received a 21-year prison term. Nationally, the case became central to discussions about anti-gay violence and whether juveniles should be tried as adults.  · |

Yeah, being ANYONE in 2018 is pretty miserable. Mind you, this happened back in 2008. A lot has changed in the past ten years and, yet again, a lot has remained the same. |

I just read the details and honestly I don't think the shooter deserves life. Definitely needs jail time and therapy though. Honestly this kid(king) was making life miserable for Brandon. He asked him to be his valentine right in the middle of his Basketball team's practice. Which lead to his team ridiculing him. Then the kid starts stalking him with high heels and makeup on during school hours vocally calling out to him in the halls. I know if I was straight(or not out of the closet) and had the immaturity of a schoolboy I might do something stupid as this kid. I probably wouldn't have shot him in the head...but it still probably would have been a felony.  |
